The girl who burped.

The girl who burped.

The boy who lived.

see what i did there?

anywho, back to my story.

once upon a time, a girl burped at dinner, a girl, can you believe it? just some friends eating at a restraunt and boom, there it was ;) to avoid further embarrassment she shall remain unnamed, but she knows who she is.

the end

(the story has been slightly exaggerated.)

bad day? maybe.

Just when you think your day/week can't get any worse, it does. In this case it gets worse when a water balloon thrown from a car unsuspectingly hits you in the back, while you're walking up 9th east. But then you go home, take your shirt off and sit down. Your wet skin sticks to the leather sofa and thats when you make a realization, shirts are overrated! Your roommates laugh at you because you're sitting on the sofa only wearing jeans and shoes, then someone puts a movie on, Inglorious Btards (edited, great movie, very funny and quite artistic) and you make an even greater realization, maybe today wasn't so bad...

sometimes i'm funny.

story, pretty sure it may still be funny even if you weren't there:

On sunday afternoon my roommate, Jeff, and I got stopped by a red light, that horrible light on university prky by albertsons, movies 8 ect... it's always red. We pull up exactly next to a car with two girls in it, they had their windows down and a popular hip/hop song blaring. They were college aged and looked like they were actually pretty nice girls. Jeff sarcastically says, "don't they know its sunday?" So I decided to be funny, I turned up my radio a little to see what song was playing, I had it on kozy 106.5, they play really crappy sunday music, but sunday music nonetheless, unfortunately it was on a commercial. I said to jeff, "watch this." He still didn't know what I was doing. I reach up and press the cd button on my car, knowing that I had an October 2004 General Conference cd in, with my luck it was mid Mo-tab song! perfect, I cranked it up, keep in mind my car has a fairly good sound system, it was really loud. Then I pulled up a couple feet so they couldn't see our faces, Mo-tab totally drowned out their hip/hop, Jeff and I were laughing so hard, we looked over and the girls were laughing too. They kept trying to pull even with my car, so I would keep inching forward, finally the light went green. We drove to the next light, red, and kept the music turned up, they pulled up next to us again and we were all still laughing. Good times. I think they appreciated our disapproval of their non-sunday music :)

hail, 50mph wind, lightning, 10,900ft. ridge...

I feel like the title explains everything, but here's the story.

This past week i have had a geology field class. We camped for the week near the top of Alta ski resort, it was so much fun. We each made a geologic map and two cross sections, basically we hiked around all day looking for different rock layers and faults.

Thursday rolls around, my partner and i decided to hike with another group of two to the top of sugarloaf peak, about 11,000ft. While hiking up we went around the backside of the mountain for an easier hike, had some lunch and finally arrived at the saddle between sugarloaf and another peak called devils castle. During this hike the sky had become overcast, but we didnt see anything that looked really threatening so we kept going. We made a measurement or two, but the basin had dense fog in it, we had wanted to observe a few things from a distance so we were a little disappointed.

By this time we decided that it may be a smart idea to get off the mountain, so we started going down back to the saddle, after no more than five steps all of the fog in the basin was blown out and five seconds after that the wind totally picked up and had a little bit of hail. By the time i got my rain jacket out of my backpack the hail had picked up and was coming at us sideways, at least 50mph winds. The only thing that could have made our incredibly exposed situation worse was... lighting!!

Yep, lightning starts up. Now the fastest way off the mountain was down the face, my group thought it looked too hard and wanted to go down the way we came up. Me being kind of experienced with stuff like this knew that was a stupid idea. I convinced our group that the face was the best way to go. We got off the ridge as fast as we could, but the hail was coming at us so fast that we couldn't walk into it, it really stung our legs. So we hid in a small patch of bushes twenty feet below the ridge. Now one of the members of our group was wearing flip flops, and his "rain coat" was a cotton sweatshirt, genius! So as we were hiding there he was having a panic attack, kinda. He started to shake pretty bad because he was cold, my partner gets out her emergency blanket so we can cover him up. This next part is my favorite. Someone says, "isn't that going to attract lighting?" So i hold it over my head and let it go, didn't throw it or anything, just let it go. It flew out of my hand and up over the ridge, it disappeared so fast, thats how strong the wind was, it must have disapparated (harry potter term).

We said a fast prayer, i couldn't even hear it. So i just said in my heart, "bless us not to die." HAHA, we felt a lot more comfortable though. By this time the dorky kid is absolutly freezing! About ten minutes had gone by just laying there. We get out a plastic poncho this time. I unfold it and put it over him to keep him from getting wet. This next part is my least favorite part of the story. I realize that this kid needs to warm up fast so he doesn't get hypothermia, so i had to cuddle with him, i was big spoon... anywho, he got a lot warmer. The hail died down for a split second and someone said, "should we try and go down now?" We all thought it felt right, low and behold the trail i had been telling them about was ten feet away. We got on it and ran/slid down the mountain in at least an inch of hail balls! Lighting striking around us.

We got lower on the mountain and felt a little bit relieved, but instead of hail it was rain, we were soaked by the time we got back to camp. When we arrived most of the groups were already back and sitting in the vans with the heaters on. We threw on some dry clothes and joined them. Our ordeal was over, and we totally had the best survival story, which is the best part about going through something like that. Other kids would talk about how they got out of the storm and all i had to say was, "at least you didn't have to cuddle up to a guy so he wouldn't get hypothermia!" haha.

Then we all drove down to snowbird to work on some stuff in the lodge and by the time we drove back to our camp there wasn't even a cloud in the sky. It was one of the prettiest evenings i have ever seen! That evening we found a little over an inch of water in our bowls that we had left on the camp table, meaning that it rained over an inch in three hours! Looking back i wasn't too worried about getting down safely, unlike the kid in flip flops, but it was definitely exciting! After it was over i said to my partner, "at least you will have a cool story to tell your husband!" HAHA

The End.

ps dear chinese people, stop making spam comments on my blog, kthxbye.

found it.

I found my ski. After a ski lift ride with a bike, an hour and a half mtn bike ride to the top of another lift, bushwaking down a double black ski run (they seem much steeper in the summer), and finding some cool fools gold. I found my ski, seems to be in pretty good shape, with a little rust on the edge :)

not so happy.

So in my trigonometry class our teacher said that if we average 90% or better on the mid-terms then we don't have to take the comprehensive final! Anywho, long story short. My mid-term average: 88%. no luck, i'll be taking the final, however, my overall score going into the final is 91% and it is supposed to be an "easy" final.

On a brighter note, only one or two more months and i will go find the love of my life, a ski that looks like a cardboard box...

what do these places have in common?

if you answered 'all those places are in europe' you would only get partial credit. The correct answer is 'Tanner is going to all of those places.'

ps i blogged twice tonight. read the other one too.

in bed...

I ate at PF Changs for the first time ever last week, it was great. While we were there someone in our party told us to add "in bed" to the end of our fortunes. It was pretty funny, and without further ado here was my fortune with "in bed" added to it:

"Your positive atitude this month will improve your present problem, in bed"

the end.

the worst.

Today might have been the worst day of my life. It started off all dandy and sweet, cousin Bryson and I went to Park City Mountain Resort to do some skiing, snowboarding for him. The snow was much better than expected, powder in the face is always good. Then tragedy struck! (don't worry we are both physically ok) So, i'm skiing along, quite fast, down a double black, powder going everywhere. I decided to split two trees, kind of two big bush things. I go between them and one of my skis catches on a twig! I tumble forward, a ski pops off, i do somersaults for 30 ft. Get up a little ticked that I had fallen! I don't fall! I look up the hill to see how far I have to hike up to get my ski that fell off, but I can't see it. So I hike up and use my other ski to prod the snow to find my other ski. I STILL can't find it! It had never taken me more than two minutes to find a buried ski before. Bryson and I looked for about an hour. We dug through sooooo much snow! He goes and gets ski patrol. Another hour passes and we still can't find it. Ski Patrol guy goes and gets a metal detector...nothing. Ski Patrol guy tells us its 3:45 and we have to get off the mountain. I AM NOT HAPPY at this point! Needless to say I came home with one ski!

I admit tears DID come out of my eyes, more than once today! I'm still depressed. Now, to make things MUCH worse, I bought those skis last week, because I broke my other pair a week and a half ago!! (I did get a good deal from the company because my other skis broke) I loved my new skis, their time with me has been far too short, they were beautiful see! Now i'm thinking that my ski, while I was flipping, slid down into the little ravine at the bottom of the run. I was almost to the ravine when I crashed, so I think it's down there somewhere. If it did slide to the bottom it is probably under only an inch or two of snow, so i'm hoping that someone skis into it tomorrow. If I have any hope to find it before spring I have to find it before it snows again. I will go search for it ASAP. Maybe not tomorrow, because it's Sunday.

However, when you realize that the worst day of your life consisted of you losing a ski, a beautiful ski, then maybe your life isn't half as bad as you might think it is. It's not like something really bad happened, items can be replaced, I got a huge tax return this year, i'll buy another pair, I would rather do other stuff with my money, it's just frustrating!

p.s. I wasn't even kidding when I said I cried a little, i'm on the verge of tears right now!

happy birthday to me.

Hello friends, I write this blog post from my revamped computer! If you hadn't heard, I dropped my macbook down concrete stairs! So it's almost at 100% we need to make a few changes and get it to stop freezing sometimes, other than that its doing great!

Anywho, I just wanted to share with you what I bought myself for my birthday. I already had a speedlight (flash) for my camera, so I picked up a set of radio triggers, the transmitter slides onto the cameras hot shoe and the receiver plugs into a port on the flash. To top it off I got a light stand and an umbrella! Thus I have my very own mini studio, that is portable.

This is what it looks like:

I haven't had too much time to play with it all yet, but this is what I came up with in a few minutes on saturday night. (while watching The Princess Bride by myself) I might be a tiny bit out of focus if you make the picture bigger, but hopefully better pictures will come soon.

ps I put the flash on the cameras left mounted up kind of high looking down on me, just have one flash, but some light bounced off the wall lighting up the other side of my face a little bit.
pps the glasses belong to my friend Katie, they are fake.

Today.

As I sit here eating chocolate and watching TV I can't help thinking about all of the great stuff I have accomplished today. *pretend you are hearing a record skip, like this* Actually I haven't done anything today!!! It's been pretty great actually. I was going to go skiing, but I decided that I didn't want to, weird right. I have been 4 of the last 7 days, my legs are tired. The plan was to do some homework so I don't have to do it on my birthday on Tuesday, feel free to call me, text me, write on my facebook wall, and/or just give me money :) But then I didn't want to do any homework, so here is how my day has gone:
-got out of bed at 9:30
-read Helaman 10
-walked up to school in my gangster sweat pants, they classify as gangster because they have cargo pockets on the side, to turn in my Geology homework.
-on the way back realized I haven't really talked to or hung out with very many friends recently. Probably due to skiing during the days and doing homework in the evenings, instead of hanging out, but hey, we all know what Elder Oaks thinks about hanging out...
-sat on the couch for at least 15 minutes with the TV off and thought about life.
-bowl of ceareal. Capn' peanut butter crunch, it was 5/$5 or else i would be eating Cinnamon Chex, it's the best cereal out there.
-practiced guitar. d, g, a7, d7, and c chords. I'm pretty sure that I have to be one of the worst players in my class of like 80 people. srsly. I guess my dad didn't pass on any musical talents to me.
-our new roommate's car got booted.
-I erased all of the awesome quotes froom the quote board so new guy could get some quotes up there. I even erased the *censored* quote, and a quote about Raspberries...
-researched radio triggers for my new flash. Also looked up stands and umbrellas to mount the flash on. Thus, I can have my own mini studio with off camera flashes, and I would be able to use it outdoors, because it's a radio trigger, and they run on batteries so nothing needs to be plugged into a wall...to be totally honest I did this for at least two hours...so I actually got a smart grant for school, so a tiny bit of it will go to these things, the rest will be in the bank for sweet adventures! I was going to buy new skis specifically used to ski in powder, but this winter sucks. So i'm not going to.
-threw magnetic darts, i'm pretty good.
-checked my phone, nothing. haha.
-thought about cleaning. Didn't.
-tried to figure out how to pay the rest of my tuition...couldn't figure it out...I have just been told that I have to use firefox, not safari.
-blog stalked, but who??
-decided to blog about my wonderfully lazy, but productive day.

And it's only 2pm!! Maybe i'll take a nap before I go to work... I figure if i'm going to work from 4:45-1230 tonight, i can do nothing every once in a while if i want.

BragFest 10'

Please excuse me for a moment I NEED to brag. About myself? No, of course not! I would never brag about myself. Today I will be bragging about cousin David. (for those of you that aren't in the family dave is my bestfriendcousin, he's my age, we're cousins, and best friends) Now, we all know he's smart and stuff, but did you know how smart he really is? The following is a conversation we had last Sunday when he and Nat came over for dinner.

me: oh my gosh dave, have you taken the LSAT yet?
dave: yeah
me: did you do well?
dave: yeah.
me: really well?
dave: yeah.

So come to find out dave scored in the 98th percentile of all the people who took the LSAT this year. Thats good. Dave is smart. His choices for law school, in order, are: Columbia, Georgetown, and George Washington.

and that's the end of bragging for Dave. I had to do it because I KNOW he is waaaaay to humble to brag about something like this.

p.s. Did you know that Dave's wife might be smarter than he is?
